Education-related Wikis

How are wikis being used for professional development?

  • Ed Tech Talk - A starting point for using a variety of web-based resources in the classroom.
  • Eduwikipedia - The beginnings of a major project to pull together all the good ideas surrounding the web and education. From the site, "This will be "The Book" of sorts. The go to repository of Educational Web 2.0 related tools, resources, experts and so on."

How are wikis being used in the classroom?

  • Calculus - Mr. Kuropatwa's AP Calculus class is using a wiki as a solution manual.
  • Mathcasts.org - A wiki for collecting "mathcasts", short movies about solving math problems.

Ideas for wikifying the curriculum

Ultimately, a wiki is just a tool, like a pencil or chalkboard. What matters most is the content. How can wikis be used to help students learn?

In our session, we talked about a few ways to use wikis. As we start using these, let me know of new ideas so they can be added here.

  • Bookchat Groups
  • Collaborative research projects
  • Peer editing
